Sonia Bassily, O.D. obtained both her undergraduate and graduate education in optometry at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, considered one of the best optometry schools in the U.S. She received her B.S. in Optometric Science in 1995, and her O.D. in 1997. She had previously obtained her B.S. in Chemistry from Seton Hall University.
After obtaining her Doctor of Optometry degree, Dr. Bassily completed an optometric residency in primary care optometry at The Eye Care Center of New Jersey. . The ocular conditions she managed ranged from routine eye exams to the management of ocular disease, pre-and post-operative care, and emergencies.
Prior to joining University Children’s Eye Center, Dr. Bassily practiced family optometry in Livingston, New Jersey, where she provided care to patients of all ages, with an emphasis on children and young adults. She provided care to many patients with ocular disease, as well as routine examinations and contact lens fitting.
Dr. Bassily specializes in the care of patients with refractive error, the management of ocular disease, amblyopia and strabismus. She is also an expert in fitting contact lenses, including hard to fit specialty lenses and lenses for children with medical conditions. She fits teenagers requesting contact lenses with the latest and best fitting contact lenses.
Dr. Bassily is the proud mother of a preschool daughter and son.
