University Children’s Eye Center (UCEC) is dedicated to ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of its patients, visitors, doctors, and staff.  Despite the current challenges we face with COVID-19, we are pleased to share that UCEC is working to safely return patients to our offices.

We know this is not a time to let our guard down, so please note the following changes to our schedules and protocol for treating patients to protect all parties:

  • UCEC will not perform examinations on any patients known or suspected to have COVID-19.

  • Patients will be limited to TWO per hour to ensure social distancing and proper sterilization of all equipment.

  • Patients will be limited to ONE parent and ONE sibling IF UNDER THE AGE OF 6 MONTHS, into the office. If the patient arrives with more than ONE parent or a sibling OVER 6 months of age, they will be asked to reschedule or have their extra party members wait outside of the building, or in their car.

  • All visitors and patients over the age of 2 years old MUST wear a mask to enter our offices. NO EXCEPTIONS.

  • We ask that upon arriving, all patients remain in their car and text 732-613-9191 upon arrival.  A staff member will respond indicating when it is safe to enter the building.

  • All paperwork and forms must be completed ONLINE at least 48 hours prior to your appointment time. You may text pictures of the front and back of your health insurance identification card to our HIPAA compliant portal at 732-613-9191.

  • No late arrivals will be accommodated. Unfortunately, due to strict social distancing mandates, it is not possible for our doctors to safely treat patients if they arrive late for their scheduled appointment time.  You will be asked to reschedule your appointment if you are not on time until further notice.

  • We encourage parents to bring a toy, iPad, book, etc., to the appointment to keep children occupied. Our offices have removed all toys, books, and other printed materials from our waiting and exam rooms for your safety.

  • We ask that parents hold their child(ren)'s hands at all times and place young child(ren) on their lap during the exam to avoid any cross-contamination in our offices.

  • In order to keep all parties safe, our goal is to limit the amount of face-to-face contact required of our patients. As a result, please note that our doctors may complete your exam and ask that you return to your car and discuss your results over the phone.

To improve access to care during this time, we have launched telehealth services as an opportunity for you to connect with one of our doctors while maintaining social distancing mandates.  Telemedicine allows patients to remotely connect to our physicians using a smartphone, tablet, or desktop computer.  Not all patients will qualify for a telehealth video conference.  For more information on this initiative, please click here to visit our Telehealth Page.
