BOTOX FOR STRABISMUS

We may think Botulinum toxin (commonly referred to as Botox) is used mostly to get rid of wrinkles.  However, Botox was first invented to treat misalignment of the eyes (strabismus)

For children and adults who traditionally require surgery to correct strabismus, botulinum toxin is a less invasive alternative.

While the child still needs anesthesia when botulinum is used, the procedure is much shorter than surgery, typically less than 5 minutes, with no cutting or sutures used.

For certain types of strabismus, botulinum toxin injection has been found to have the same success rate as surgery.  UCEC is one of the few practices that offers botulinum toxin injection for the treatment of strabismus.
