As the holiday season approaches, everyone at University Children’s Eye Center wants to take a moment to give thanks to the families and community we are privileged to serve. Whether it's guiding parents on vision-friendly holiday gifts to ensuring children have the right specialized glasses and supporting adults with unique eye care needs, our goal is to provide thoughtful, expert care for every patient. In this special holiday newsletter, we’re sharing a few ways we give back to our community: helpful tips, expert advice, and insights to keep your family’s eyes healthy and bright throughout the season.

Holiday Gift Ideas That Support Kids’ Vision

At University Children’s Eye Center, we’re so thankful for the trust our community places in us—and this holiday season, we want to give back by sharing a little guidance for parents. Choosing gifts that support your child’s development doesn’t have to be tricky! Our doctors recommend items that encourage hand-eye coordination, creativity, and screen-free play, helping kids grow healthy eyes while having fun.

From coloring books, crayons, and markers to puzzles, Legos, and family board games, these gifts foster important skills while bringing the whole family together. Even a simple snowball fight can be a joyful, vision-friendly way to play! Think of this as our way of saying thank you: a small gift of advice to help make your holidays brighter and your kids’ eyes healthier.

The Importance of Specialized Glasses for Children

At University Children’s Eye Center, we’re grateful for the opportunity to care for your children’s eyes, and that includes ensuring they have the right glasses to support healthy vision. Children’s glasses aren’t just smaller versions of adult frames; they’re specially designed to meet the unique needs of young eyes.

For children age six and under, we strongly recommend visiting optical shops that focus on kids’ eyewear. While many of these options are self-pay and may not be covered by insurance, the superior quality of the lenses and frames—often with warranties for breakage or damage—makes it a worthwhile investment. Parents consistently report being very satisfied with these specialized glasses, which provide both comfort and durability while helping children see clearly and comfortably every day.

Specialized Care for Adults with Eye Misalignment

At University Children’s Eye Center, we’re grateful to serve our community across all ages, including adults with very specific eye care needs. While our primary focus is children, three of our doctors—Dr. Engel, Dr. Sun, and Dr. Rousta—also see adults diagnosed with eye misalignment, or strabismus, particularly those who may require surgical intervention.

Adults who experience double vision or may benefit from prism glasses are referred to our specialists after consultation with their general ophthalmologist or optometrist. In many cases, we also recommend follow-up care with optometrists skilled in prism refractions. This specialized attention ensures that all patients, young and adult, receive the precise care they need, another way we give back to the community we’re proud to serve.

Thank you for trusting University Children’s Eye Center with your family’s eye care. We’re grateful to be part of your community and wish you a joyful, healthy holiday season.
